William Kenneth Lawhead was born in Columbus Ohio on October 13th, 1936. He passed away on June 3rd, 2023, where this wonderful man went to meet his wife Janet of 63 years in heaven.
William was preceded in death by his loving wife Janet Elaine Lawhead, son David Alan Lawhead, sister Janet Lawhead-Robinson and parents Frances Jordan (Todd) and John Lawhead. Bill is survived by his children Jennifer Lawhead-Kazee (Jeffery), Thomas William Lawhead, William Kenneth Lawhead Jr., Grandson Ian Lawhead and Sherri Seeley-Lawhead (daughter-in law). Sisters Dorothy Lawhead-Evans, Laura Lawhead - Rutherford; brother John Lawhead; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill is a graduate of Central High School in Columbus Ohio. He served in the Ohio National Guard from November 2,1955 to November 1,1963 and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of SSGT (E6). While serving his country he also began his career as a Firefighter First Responder with Mifflin Township. Bill then transferred to the Grandview Heights Fire Department in 1967 serving as Firefighter and Paramedic for the community until his retirement in 1992.
The Grandview Heights Fire Department truly made Bill proud and humbled to be a part of such a great team to the very end of his days!
After retirement Bill was employed by Big Bear Stores (Penn Traffic) as an OSHA Safety Officer.
In July of 1972 Bill and Janet purchased a home where they could raise their children and be a part of the Grandview Heights community which they were until April of 2022.
Bill had an intense loyalty to Ohio State athletics, Cincinnati Bengals and New York Yankees.
In his younger years he was a Scout Troop Leader (Boy Scouts), an avid bowler and active softball player.
He was loved by many and a wonderful friend to all. He never met a stranger; everyone was his BUDDY.
Visitation to be held Friday June 16th, 2023 from 10 am to 11 am, with the service to begin at 11am, at Shaw-Davis Funeral Home located at 4341 North High Street, Clintonville.
A graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery located at 4585 Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road, New Albany immediately following the service.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
