William Matthew Hughes
William Matthew Hughes of Columbus, Ohio was born on September 9, 1963 in Hindman, Knott County, Kentucky to William Russell and the late Betty Jean Hovatter Hughes. He passed away on June 4, 2019. He was preceded in death by his mother, brother, David Randall Hughes and brother-in-law, Jesse Hall, Jr.
In addition to his father and step-mother Alicia Hughes, he is survived by siblings: Marcia Jean (Jeani) (David) Flanagan, Leila Ann Hall, John Michael Hughes, Mark Bradford Hughes, Brenda Lee (Joseph) Paulino, Valerie Dawn (Paul) Bennington, step-brother, Patrick Todd Mayo and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
William served in the Unites States Army as a Personnel Administration Specialist where he received numerous medals and badges. While serving, he enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. He especially loved touring Germany while being stationed there.
William Matthew attended Allen Central High School in Eastern, KY and graduated in 1981. He received a bachelor's degree in molecular genetics at Ohio State University and worked for many years at Chemical Abstract in Columbus. He also worked at Mindleaders as a computer programmer.
In addition to traveling, he loved spending time with family and friends. He was a skilled prankster who could spin a tale and make you believe that it was the truth. He enjoyed getting to know people of all cultures.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 2 until 4 at the Shaw-Davis Funeral Home located at 4341 North High Street.
A Memorial Service will also be held in Kentucky on a future date.
