Walter Edward Bensen of Columbus, OH died, with his wife of 46 years, Lin Bensen, at his side and surrounded by his family, on December 2, 2017 at the age of 71.
Walt was born October 21, 1946 in Toledo, OH to Edward and Elizabeth (Baker) Bensen. He attended Bowling Green State University before joining the U.S. Marine Corps and serving in Vietnam. He returned to Bowling Green graduating in 1971. He married Linda Louise (Walker) Bensen, June 19, 1971 after meeting in college.
Walt is survived by his wife, Lin; children Edward (Cristin) of Dallas, TX and Thomas of Delaware, OH; grandchildren, Reagan and Madison of Delaware, OH; siblings, Robert (Eileen) Bensen of Toledo, OH; Lynn (Charles) Koerber of Atlanta, GA; Eric Bensen of Orlando, FL; Janet (Howard) Woodrow of Fort Pierce, FL. He is preceded in death by his sister, Karen Bensen.
Walt realized a lifelong dream of owning a business when he started Bensen Fire and Safety with his son Tom in 2012. He loved spending time with his granddaughters or working on a project around the house. He was a budding fly fisherman picking up the hobby with his son Ed. He also loved to travel. He was an active member of Worthington United Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, December 17, 2017 with visitation from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. and service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High Street.
