Virginia Leigh Dye, 94, of Columbus, Ohio, peacefully passed away on April 19, 2025. She was born on June 12, 1930, in Frankfort, Kentucky, the youngest daughter of Dewy and Gladys Evans. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved son Brad Dye, and her sisters, Mary A. Fowler and Reba Louise LaBathe.
Virginia was hardworking and, even in her retirement years, remained employed at Macy’s department store until the age of 89, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought her working days to an end. She was a loyal friend who will be remembered for her big heart, quick wit, and sharp sense of humor. She had a natural ability to make people laugh and feel at ease, and her friendships—many lasting decades—meant the world to her.
She is survived by her two “bonus sons,” Craig (Lori) Miller of Marion, Ohio and Scott (Melissa) Miller of Delaware, Ohio, who lovingly called her “Jippy.” She was especially proud of the close bond they shared and loved them like her own. She also found great joy in being a “bonus grandma” to Garrett Miller, Audrey Miller, Logan Carey, and Devan Miller. Her “bonus great-grandchildren,” Maren and Mila Carey, were a bright light in her later years. Virginia is also survived by her nephew, Charles "Buddy" Fowler of Lewisburg, TN, and her niece, Reba Carol Stolz of Lomita, CA.
Virginia loved to bake and enjoyed sharing her treats with friends, neighbors, and coworkers as a simple, heartfelt gesture of care. She had a knack for finding new recipes and had quite the cookbook collection. She also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, where she liked to test her luck and have a little fun.
She will be deeply missed by her family, her many friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Shaw-Davis Funeral Home, 4341 N. High St., Columbus, Ohio.
