Vern Peltomaa

July 13, 1965 — February 19, 2022

Vern Charles Peltomaa, July 13, 1965 - February 19, 2022. We love you more than words can tell, survived by his wife, Linda Peltomaa, daughter, Aja Peltomaa, future son-in-law Sterling Tamburello, mother, Donna Peltomaa, brothers, Brian (Bonnie) Peltomaa and Kirk Peltomaa and many other family and friends. Preceded in death by father, Ray Peltomaa, father-in-law Eli Manos and brother-in-law Mark Petteys.

Vern was incredibly clever with keen humor and insight. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in Electrical Engineering, he then serviced professional audio gear at Abell Audio from 1993 - present. He was the co-founder of the Columbus rock band Local Color along with Mark Allen in 1989. The band continued to play with many different talented members until 2019. Vern was also the co-founder of the Columbus rock band Crash & Burn with Christopher Whitney.

Vern was a dedicated fan of OSU football and basketball as well as the Cleveland Browns, Cavs and Indians/Guardians. He never missed an episode of Jeopardy! and occasionally ran entire Jeopardy categories, even on the day before his death. Vern was a classic rock aficionado. He was a collector of all good music, including 7,000+ albums.  He often played music until sunrise. When he learned a Bob Dylan song on guitar, he brought to life all 3, 7 or 12 verses. He celebrated the Grateful Dead by wearing a tuxedo to his 100th show in 1993, (that is the picture shown on this page). Although he suffered from ongoing back pain, he still traveled to see King Crimson and he also saw several excellent shows at Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch.

Vern was a loyal, kind, understanding and true friend. His friends were family, he always called them brother or sister once there was a special bond. Vern was a member of Mensa, a 3FBS lifetime member, and he was nicknamed "Sting" in the Deadly Leper junior high school neighborhood gang.

There will be a Celebration of Life this summer.

Vern is sorely missed, we love you honey - Linda and Aja
