BROWN-FEATHERSTONE
Tonya Lee Brown (Featherstone) age 45, born April 18, 1974 in Columbus, Ohio and passed away September 13, 2019 in Columbus, Ohio. Tonya is preceded in death by Mary Ann Reid, the mother who raised her, and her husband, David Featherstone, who provided stability, happiness and helped raise her children as his own. Also preceded in death is her cousin, Kena Adams. Tonya is survived by her children Nityshea Brown, Dylan Burk, DeQuion Anderson, Jr. and Lenora Wilson; sisters Alinda Anderson, Anitra Lambert and Rina Dunkin; brother Corey Reid; nephews DeQuion Anderson, DeMarko Anderson, Dre Adams, Lance Brown, Decarlo Anderson and Devon Anderson; Cousins Kena Adams and Lillian Burks; best friends NaTasha Homer, Walter Brown, Veronica Davis, Dawn Hardman and Leslie Hill-Ali.
Tonya graduated from Tiffin University with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. She was an entrepreneur for most of her life. In 2005, at the age of 31, she owned a daycare center which cared for over 100 children. Tonya was proud of this achievement. She received recognition from her peers as well as article in the Columbus Dispatch for this great accomplishment. The article highlighted the care and dedication those students received from Tonya’s successful nurturing approach.
Tonya also enjoyed traveling to new destinations. Some of her favorite places to relax and find new adventures included the Bahamas, St. Croix, New Orleans and Florida.
She had a loving daughter who was her best friend and travel buddy. Throughout her care and treatment Shay was her number one cheerleader, keeping her spirits high and happy. Her son Dylan she cherished and loved whole heartedly. He taught her how to be patient and kind. She loved them both dearly!
Tonya was a social butterfly and always stood out in the crowd. Whether in a group of friends or by herself, she didn’t know a stranger. She loved to ‘dress up’ regardless of the event. Needless to say, Tonya always made a lasting impression, even if she was running late to the party. She enjoyed the music of Beyonce’ and mastered all of her dance moves, although not always the best dancer.
Tonya also loved her dogs. Daisy was her favorite out of the three. She used to say she reminded her of herself because of how feisty and short tempered she was. But after she had her puppies she was nurturing, playful and protective. After chemo treatments, Daisy would lay in the bed with Tonya until she was ready to take their daily walks.
In memory of Tonya a visitation will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2019 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Vineyard Columbus, 6000 Cooper Road, Westerville, Ohio 43081. Her funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Anthony Cannon officiating. A repast will directly follow the funeral service at the church.
The Brown family would like to extend a special thank you to the Stephanie Speilman Cancer Center who provided care for treatment. And a special thank you to Ohio Health Hospice who provided end of life care. Especially, Dr. Stover and his staff. Together, their care and treatment not only extended Tonya’s life, but provided the love and comfort she deserved. We are most grateful.
We also would like to acknowledge and a say a special thank you to her best friend, NaTasha. NaTasha dedicated her time and energy with endless support to Tonya’s care. She attended every chemo treatment, surgery and doctor’s appointment without hesitation. Regardless of the situation, NaTasha could always make Tonya laugh or at least bring a smile to her face. Natasha, you will always have a special place in our hearts.
