Thelma George

March 29, 1924 — November 2, 2016

Thelma Pauline George, age 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday November 2, 2016. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalm 116:15. Thelma was born to Ben and Eunice Awe in Napoleon, OH and was the 5th of six children. In 1946, her family moved to Columbus, Ohio. That same year she met her future husband, Paul (Pete) George, and they were married in 1948. Pete preceded her in death.  She is survived by her children Diane (Mike) Traugh, Dennis (Carol) George, Dale (Kathy) George and Darrel (Ginger) George. She loved spending time with her 16 grandchildren; Julie (Mark) Johnson, Lisa (Jim) Grove, Benjamin (Erin), Jonathan (Kayla), Nathan who preceded her in death (Lauren), Thomas (Ashley), Timothy, Matthew (Julie), Thadd (Jamie), Morgan, Alex (Summer), Darby, Mitchell, Grayson, Max and Cooper.  She was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren who loved their GiGi (Lauren, David, Kelsey, Alana, Miles, Cohen, Nolan, Jackson, Christian, and Ryder. Judah preceded her in death). She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Floretta Awe, and Bessie George, along with many nieces and nephews. Her family filled her life with joy. She made family gatherings special and treasured events. Thelma not only was faithful in serving her family, but also faithful in serving her Cypress Wesleyan Church family as board secretary, organist, and member of the choir. She especially enjoyed singing in the Golden Echoes Trio. Thelma was lovingly known as the “Cypress Grandma.” Over the years she worked for the Columbia Gas Co., the F. & R. Lazarus Co., Crooks and George (Pete’s architectural firm), and CompuServe.

Family will receive friends Sunday, November from 3-5 pm at CYPRESS WESLEYAN CHURCH Chapel 377 Alton Darby Creek Rd. Galloway, OH 43119. The Celebration of Life service will be held 11am at Cypress Wesleyan Church Worship Center Monday, November 7, 2016.  Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Thelma’s memory may be made to Cypress Wesleyan Church, Galloway, OH.
