Teofilo Jesus Zuniga joined his Heavenly Father on September 24th, 2020, one hour shy of his seventy-seventh birthday. Teofilo passed peacefully from complications of COVID-19 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. His loving family was with him via Zoom.
Born in Toluca, Mexico in 1943, Teofilo is preceded in death by his parents Teofilo and Lucia, and siblings Manuel, Alejandro and Mario Zuniga.
Teofilo married the love of his life, Celerina Saucedo upon moving to the United States in 1967. Left to cherish Teo’s memory are his “Nóra” Celerina, children Lucia (Stephen) Proudfoot, Carlos (Brooke), and Andrew (Shannon) Zuniga. Teofilo is also survived by his truest joy in life – his seven grandchildren: Jacob, Alyssa, Mia Bella, Alec, Devon, Adlin, and Jordan. In addition, he is survived by his sisters Yolanda Zuniga, Margarita Zuniga, and Lucia Ramos, as well as beloved extended family across the United States, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
Enjoying the company of family and friends was everything to Teo. Countless hours were spent at family gatherings, playing with grandkids, watching movies and sporting events, and travelling to spend time with those he loved.
In 1979, Teofilo humbly received the call to become a faithful servant of God. He was profoundly proud to share the word of God as an evangelical Catholic leader in the Hispanic community. He touched the lives of his brothers and sisters in faith around the world, and he treasured these friendships. No one was a stranger to Teo – he had a smile and warm conversation for everyone he encountered.
