Sylvia Rider

October 7, 1939 — April 21, 2020

Sylvia Maureen Rider, 80, passed away on April 21, 2020.  She was a memory care resident at The Grand in Dublin, Ohio.  She was born on October 7, 1939 in rural Sugar Creek Township, in Putnam County, Ohio to James and Dorothy McKanna.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents James and Dorothy McKanna;  a son, Eric Eberle; a brother, Michael McKanna.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tracy (Stephen) Kill; granddaughter Renee (Craig) Wachauf and great-granddaughter Harper; Grandson, Justin (Sarah) Kill and great-grandson Mason; and her loving, loyal, furry companion Annie.

She graduated from Columbus Grove High School.  She went on to earn a degree in accounting and retired as an accountant at age 70 from Palmer Donavin in Delphos, Ohio.  She lived in the Allen County area her adult life until one year ago when she decided to move to Pickerington, Ohio to be close to her daughter and grandkids.  She made so many new and wonderful friends in Pickerington where she resided at The Abbington of Pickerington.  She loved to spend time being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to spend time coloring and playing games with her great-granddaughter, Harper.   She loved being outdoors gardening, walking, camping, and hiking, reading, and going to garage sales. She hated to have her picture taken.  She was kind, brave, loving, funny, accepting, and sweet.  She made friends easily and loved everyone she met.  Wherever she went she put people at ease and she was always making people laugh.  Her golden retriever, Annie, was her baby and was always by her side.  Together they always drew a crowd of admirers.  She said it was too bad that men weren’t more like her dog Annie (loyal, kind, loving, accepting, and obey her commands!)

A small memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
