Suzanne Shelly Bobb passed away June 30th, 2018 after a courageous seven year battle of metastatic breast cancer. She is the daughter of the late Richard Hunt Shelly and Ruth A. (McClure) Shelly formerly of, Wiscasset ME and Rosemont, PA.
Susie grew up in Havertown, PA where she enjoyed a happy childhood roller skating, riding her bike, setting track records, scouting, leading holiday parades as drum majorette captain and camping/traveling with her family to Boothbay Harbor, ME, Jersey shore and beyond. She graduated from The Agnes Irwin School, a private independent girls school in Rosemont, PA where she was the President of the Art Club which accorded Susie several awards for her works and efforts. Those AIS years were the happiest ones of her life and fifty years later she still looked forward to seeing her classmates at the reunions.
She attended Texas Christian University transferring later to The Ohio State University where she became a linguistics/French major. She married during which time she and her husband personally restored a 200 year old home on five acres: mowing, hauling lumber, painting, dry walling, and stripping wood and furniture was the norm at that time. They had just one child, a daughter, Shelly Anne Bobb who adored growing up in the country with their German Shepherd and numerous bam kitties.
Settling into a new home with just her daughter, Susie was always seen working outdoors either on home projects or in her yard which was always immaculate down to the edging. She created a lovely floral garden and worked extensively on her landscaping, initially hauling dirt and sand up a small hill to format the beds. Her private deck was where she spent endless hours reading, eating meals, writing letters and planning her overseas trips. She independently traveled to Europe several times as well as the Middle East and Africa for she had a profound interest in the culture and history of these global areas, returning home with only a few hand crafted items, books and original works of art. She was a true Francophile, thus becoming a member of the " Foundation Claude Monet * based in Paris. Prior to moving her elderly father into her home and being his sole caregiver for 51/2 years, she spent decades in finance; Sr. Asst. Underwriter of Fidelity & Forgery, Depository Representative/Consultant and Auditor.
Suzanne will be remembered for her love of historical documentaries, detailed work ethic, her fun spirit and enthusiasm, her independence, rescuer of baby kitties, her long term friendships with Sherry, Patti, Jane, Kay, Judy, Marcy and, Stephanie, her very thoughtful and personal hand written letters, her kindness to all her friends and neighbors, her resiliency, and her profound dedication and love for her daughter. She was a member of the Broad Street Presbyterian in Columbus, Ohio.
Suzanne is survived by her daughter, Shelly Anne Bobb of Gahanna, OH and her niece, Heidi Hunt Pearson-Biermeister. She is predeceased by her parents, her sister, Joanne Shelly Pearson and by her grandparents, Dr. Percy Van Dyke and Florence (Hunt) Shelly of Glenside PA, and Charles A. McClure.
