Cummings, Susan, “Susie” K. Wolverton-Cummings, age 63, went home on Saturday, July 16, 2016, while surrounded by her loved ones.
Susie touched many lives in her short time here and all those that knew her were truly blessed, as long as you were on her good side. She was a person that could always make you laugh, for you never knew what to expect from her. She was strong and free-spirited, with a mind of her own, and she never let things keep her down for too long. Susie was always up for a new adventure, and although she always had good intentions and she always tried her best, there were times when things did not turn out the way she wanted. Whether it be tipping over in canoes on a family gathering, getting thrown from her horse while horseback riding with her sisters, or even falling through the ceiling as she was sneaking into her father’s attic to see what treasures she could find, she was always having fun.
Susie was full of love, energy, and laughter and she carried that into her work as a pediatric hospice nurse, and later as a geriatric nurse. She spent many years caring for her patients both in their homes and in nursing facilities. One of her guiding principles was “Everyone needs someone,” and her patients and their families always knew they could count on her.
We were given this same kind of care from Brookdale Hospice as they cared for Susie. Her nurses, Tanya and Denise, as well as Tina and the others on staff, were absolutely amazing. Thank you for helping her to fight such an amazing fight, while also trying to keep her comfortable. On behalf of the family, I also want to thank you for being there for us. For calming our fears and holding all of our hands and sometimes just sitting with us, we thank you.
Susie is preceded in death by her parents, USMC Sgt Major Robert and Laura Wolverton, as well as her son, Corp. Matthew R. Cummings, USMC. She is survived by her former husband, John Cummings, her sisters, Cheri (Tom) Laughlin and Robin (Don) Semon. her daughter Melissa Anthony, her son Michael (Kammi) Cummings, her daughter-in-law Shannon Keenan, her grandchildren, Joshua (Amanda) Anthony, Bryant Anthony, Tyler (Kasey) Anthony, Tiffany Gleason, Matthew Cummings, Kameo Cummings, Kaleko Cummings, and great granddaughter Audrey Rose Anthony, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
At Susie’s request, there will be no formal memorial service. A small private memorial to celebrate her life will be held at her daughter’s home. For those wishing to attend or pay respects, please contact Melissa Anthony for additional information.
