Carolyn Sue Myers

March 27, 1942 — January 20, 2025

Carolyn Sue Myers

Sue had the final say in her courageous eleven-year battle with ovarian cancer on Monday, January 20, 2025, when she entered into the presence of Jesus, her Savior, for eternity.

Sue was born on March 27, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Earl & Carol Shafer. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Wynd in 1976, and second husband, Mike Myers in 2023. She is survived by her sons Bradley (Julie) Myers and Todd (Becca) Myers; her granddaughters Olivia, Laine, Beatrice, Clementine, and Marigold; sisters Lana (Paul) Goblet and Debby (Hossein) Kanani; and many other dear family and friends, including lifelong pals Arlene Hope and Patti Thomas.

A graduate of North High School in 1960, Sue spent much of her growing-up and adult years living in the Columbus neighborhood of Clintonville. She also resided in the Ohio cities of Wooster, Powell, and Delaware. In her later years, perhaps her happiest place to be was at her cottage in Lakeside, Ohio, which she and Mike purchased in 2000. So many wonderful memories were made there with family and friends! She always had something good waiting on the stove and took great care in preparing to welcome loved ones there.

Sue held a variety of jobs over the years as a bookkeeper to help support her family. An early employer of hers was Columbia Gas of Ohio, where she met her first husband, Walt, and where she was crowned “Miss Blue Flame.” She often had fun recounting this time when her request as the winner was granted to be “dripping in diamonds for a day!” She also enjoyed being in the Columbia Gas choir.

In 1979, a few years after Walt’s passing, Sue’s life was made brighter again by a random introduction to Mike by mutual friends at the old Burger Chef in Clintonville. Three months later Sue married Mike, and shortly after he adopted Brad and Todd as his own. Sue and Mike shared 43 years of marriage.

A lifelong member of Beechwold Christian Church, Sue served in a variety of areas, including the church choir and the MOPS ministry as a mentor mom. She loved to encourage others and did so in both these roles, as well as many others.

With the many titles Sue held in her lifetime, some she most cherished were those of “Dramma” and “Gaga.” She could not contain her excitement in 2001 when she learned she would become a grandparent for the first time! From then on, she made it her mission to spoil her granddaughters and create wonderful memories for each of them. It was her joy to plan and host sleepovers, trips to the lake, and many other fun experiences! Garage sales and thrift stores did not stand a chance as Sue scoured each in search of treasures for her granddaughters. Armed with dress-up clothes, dolls, play furniture, books, and crafts, Sue was always eager to create a special experience for each of them, thus showing her love.

Throughout her earthly life, Sue experienced many ups and downs. Through them all, the thing that always brought her hope and peace were the promises of God that she had through Jesus. Praise the Lord she is now fully living out those promises forevermore! It seems fitting to close with lyrics from one of Sue’s favorite songs written by Jim Hill, “What a Day That Will Be.”

“What a day that will be / When my Jesus I shall see / And I look upon His face / The One who saved me by His grace / When He takes me by the hand / And leads me through the Promised Land / What a day, glorious day, that will be”

The family expresses deep gratitude to Dr. Kellie Rath, Patrick Mauger, and the entire staff of Worthington Christian Village, and Luminary Hospice for the exceptional care, compassion, dignity, and comfort they provided to Sue and our entire family.
