Siu Wu Kuo

Wu Kuo, Siu Lie (AKA Shir Lee Wu Kuo, Siu Lie Wu, Shirlee Wu), age 73, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on Wednesday March 17, 2021 at OSUMC.  She was born on April 19, 1947 in Jakarta, Indonesia to parents Wun Mei Wu and Lieh Chi Hu. Shir Lee dedicated her entire life to ballet. At age 13 she left Jakarta on a cruise ship to go to Beijing, China to study ballet at the Beijing Ballet Academy, spending 10 years to become a ballet professional. In 1972 Shir Lee entered Hong Kong and became a ballet teacher and choreographer. She was certified as a soloist by the Royal Dance Academy there. In 1975 Shir Lee arrived New York for her modern dance training with Martha Graham. In 1977, she arrived in Hillsboro, Ohio and started her ballet teaching career. She had been teaching ballet ever since then in Columbus until February this year.

Shir Lee is preceded in death by her parents Wun Mei Wu and Lieh Chi Hu. She is survived by her loving husband Been Kuo, children Ivan Kuo, Basil Kuo, and granddaughter Naomi Kuo.

Services in her honor will be held on 4/19/2021 at Shaw-Davis Funeral Homes, Clintonville Chapel at 4341 N High St, Columbus, OH 43214. The family will receive guests from 4 pm to 6 pm, with the funeral service beginning at 6 pm followed by celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, Shir Lee has requested that memorial contributions be made to Columbus City Ballet Workshop, a 501(c)(3) charity at https://www.columbuscityballetworkshop.org .
