Simeon Jerry Sweatte was born the second child of sixteen in Newark New Jersey on September 20, 1961 to Dr. Appolles and Cornelia (Connie) Sweatte. He attended Rahway High School in Rahway, NJ and made his way through life in his early years detailing cars and working in warehouses. Jerry attended Mountain State University in W.VA before moving to Columbus, Ohio where he received his associates degree in business at Columbus State Community College. He worked various jobs and was most recently employed with Alvis House where he helped individuals overcome various life obstacles by connecting them to resources.
Jerry was in a committed relationship with Lisa Jolly and four children were born from that union: Shara (Todd) Hutchinson, Salaam “Roof” Sweatte, Timothy Sweatte and Keith Sweatte. He later fathered another child, Doniera Sweatte. Jerry was later joined together in holy matrimony with Deborah and they have enjoyed many loving and successful years together.
Jerry grew up in the state of New Jersey and migrated to Beckley, West, Va in his young adult years to get a fresh start in life and to raise his kids. Jerry moved to Columbus, Ohio at the age of 45 to be near his relatives and children. Although Jerry struggled with various facets of life, he believed in God and truly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, family and friends with all of his heart. He was a very outgoing and determined individual that wouldn't take NO for an answer. These characteristic allowed him to accomplish a long time goal he had of becoming an author. In 2023, Jerry published his book "Never Too Late: A Story of Overcoming Addiction and Finding a Life Worth Living”.
Jerry was a member of Living Word Church for many years. He was also a member of The Home Church for a short period of time. Jerry is proceeded in death by his mother Connie Hoover, his step mother Patricia Sweatte, his 4 brothers: Appolles, Jr. (Timmy), Joel and Larry Sweatte, Charles (Dink) S, and his sister Kimberly Jackson.
Jerry leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, children, ten grandchildren, his siblings: Rodney (Christie) Sweatte ; Lisa (Terrance) Dees; Robert "Frankie" (Lisa) Sweatte; Kenneth (Andrea) Sweatte; Steven (Lindsey) Sweatte, David (Kayon) Sweatte; Jessica Sweatte; Brian (Crystal) Sweatte; Gary S, Earl Hoover; a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
