Shirley Ann Cartellone, most recently of Sunbury, OH, passed away after a brief stay at Kobacker Hospice House in Columbus, OH on Thursday, October 4th, 2018 at the age of 73 with her daughter at her side.
Shirley was born on June 27, 1945 in Paris, TX to the late Dominic and Opal (Utz) Berila. From there the family moved to Rowan, Iowa before moving to Cleveland. Starting in 1953, Shirley lived in Berea, OH, and graduated from Berea High School in 1963. She treasured spending summers in New Hampton, Iowa with family and enjoying farm living. She was a loving and supportive mother Nanna, sister, and aunt who adored family dinners and gatherings and her outings to BINGO with friends. She spent many years with the Sherwin-Williams Company in downtown Cleveland, OH and served on the Women’s Guild. She retired in 2007 after 37 years of devoted service. As a retiree, she served with Medina Hospice, the class of 1963 Reunion Committee, and enjoyed making a difference in other’s lives.
Preceded in death by her husband Jack Anthony Cartellone, she will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Kimberly (Mark) Holman of Centerburg, OH, and her beloved grandchildren: Thomas, James, Jacob, and Hannah Holman; step-sons Tony (Susan) Cartellone of Denver, CO and granddaughters Kayla and Kristine, and Lee Michael (Renee) Cartellone of Cleveland, OH.
She is also survived by her siblings: Richard Berila of Westlake, OH, Cathy (Gary) Prehauser of Defiance, OH, Dianne (Robert) Erdman of Strongsville, OH, and Patricia Brown of Culpeper, VA, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends, especially Gloria Guinnip and high school best friend, Ruth Ellen Benedict-Woods. She is also survived by her precious companion dog, Sampson.
A Celebration of Life service in her honor will be held at 12 NOON on Friday, October 12th at St. Mary’s Church of Berea, 250 Kraft St, Berea, OH 44017 in Father Garrity Hall behind the church. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service.
