Sharon (Grogg) Kannel was born in Butler, Indiana in 1935 to Randal and Maggie Ruth Grogg. She graduated from Hamilton High School where she was both a majorette and the Carnival Queen. She received a diploma from Tri-State (Trine) University in Angola, Indiana. In April 1958, she married Jerrold Kannel and moved to Alabama, and then to Michigan, before finally settling Columbus, OH in 1960. She was an active member of Beechwold Christian Church for over 60 years and was a breast cancer survivor of 26 years. Sharon loved traveling and was able to visit many places with Jerry, both in the US and abroad – hiking through the Rocky Mountains and Alaska, riding cable cars in Chamonix, France, and spending time with family on cruises. She especially loved traveling to the Israel to see the Holy Lands and walk the paths of her Bible heroes. Surprisingly, her favorite part of the trip was riding a camel! Sharon’s highest priority was always family and friends. Her door was always open, and her home was a place for anyone to come and be cared for, especially if they needed ice cream or snickerdoodles. She is survived by her husband Jerry, her daughters Melinda (Greg) Greenzalis and Stephanie Hendrix, and her grandchildren John (Carole), David, Luke, Morgan, Natalie, and Greg. Our family extends a huge thank you to the amazing Worthington Christian Village staff for the care and compassion with which they have cared for our mom/wife/grandma the last few years. We are so sad that dementia has taken these wonderful memories from our wife/mom/grandmother in these last years, but we are grateful that we still have them. Research is coming close to finding a cure or treatment that will keep other families from experiencing this loss. Because of this, we ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association in Sharon’s memory or in honor of someone in your life (Alzheimer’s Association -click> “Get Involved” -> “Other Ways to Give” -> “Tribute Pages”). Calling hours will be Wednesday, October 27th from 4pm to 7pm and Thursday, October 28th from 10am to 11am. Funeral service will be Thursday, October 28th at 11am. All will be held at BEECHWOLD CHRISTIAN CHURCH 280 Morse Rd Cols. 43214. Please visit www.shaw-davis.com for condolences and memorial tribute.
