Sandra "Sandy" Barber-Matson

September 4, 1960 — August 27, 2017

Sandra “Sandy” Dortha Barber-Matson, age 56, passed away Sunday, August 27th, 2017 after a hard fight with a long-term illness. She was born September 4th, 1960 in Georgetown, South Carolina to parents Author Leroy Barber and Robbie Patterson. She grew up in the Low Country of South Carolina where she enjoyed fishing with her father, spending time at the beach, and being all about nature especially flowers and horses.

She is preceded in death by her loving father Author “Al” Leroy Barber of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Sandy leaves behind her loving husband of 25 years Robert Hayden Matson, her most amazing accomplishment and beloved son Hayden Stiles Matson both of Lancaster, Ohio, her loving mother Robbie Smithson of Caruthersville, Missouri, her two caring sisters Paula Pulver of Belton, Missouri and Julia Parsons of Washington, North Carolina, and her dog Buddy and cat Shadow who were her beloved companions.

Sandy was a loving wife and mother who loved life. She was full of love, kindness and generosity for everyone and everything. She loved family vacations to Carova Beach (OBX) North Carolina where the wild horses roam free, it brought her back to her childhood with the soft sand in her feet and ocean breeze in her hair, and it simplified everything in life to just pure, basic beauty. Her hobbies included baking cookies, cakes, and brownies for the neighborhood children, cultivating plants, and being by the ocean as often as she could be.

Sandy was a “Sweet Southern Lady” with a “Heart of Gold” and she will be terribly missed by her husband Bob, son Hayden, her extended family and by all whom knew and loved her.
