Sandra (Sandy) R. Smalley (née Sawyer), Aged 79 years, passed on August 8, 2023, at her residence in the Oakleaf Village community. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Michael Lee Smalley; grandparents Walter and Gertrude Sawyer and Charles and Mabel Hinton; her parents, Walter G. and Martha Sawyer (née Hinton); and her sister Suzanne "Sue" Van Cleave (née Sawyer).
Sandra is survived by her son, Bryan Smalley (Yiwen Kuo); Step-daughters Rebecca "Becky" Wells (Keith Wells), Carol Reed; her brother Benny "Ben" Sawyer (Bobbi Sawyer); brother-in-law, Walter Van Cleave Jr. (Sandy Van Cleave); nephews Shaun Sawyer (Tia Sawyer), Walter Van Cleave III (Brenda Van Cleave), John Van Cleave (Nora Van Cleave), Scott Sawyer (Maria Sawyer); grandchildren, Beth Ours, Todd Dawson, Jeffrey Brenning, Sean Reed, Dustin Reed, and Philip Chu; numerous great-grandchildren, grand-nephews; and friends including Robert "Bob" and Eileen Bumgarner, and Cynthia "Cindy" Glassner. One friend in particular, Elaine Lopez (née Prushing), was her life-long confidant and trusted advisor.
Sandra graduated from Hamilton Township High School and began her career at State Auto Insurance Company in Columbus, Ohio, where she worked until her retirement. Sandra enjoyed classical music, opera, and Buckeye football. While at Oakleaf, she was under the astute care of the staff at Oakleaf and Capital City Hospice. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no viewing or graveside service.
