ROBERT LEWIS
Robert Gould Lewis of Steubenville, Ohio, died at 81 years of age on August 27, 2018 at The Whetstone Gardens and Care Center in Columbus, OH.
"Bob" is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane; his children, Dyanne Lewis of Columbus, OH and David Lewis (Tammie) of Steubenville, OH; four grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Virginia Lewis and his cousin, Reverend Jack Squires of Fairmont, WV.
Bob was born on November 13, 1936 in Fairmont, WV, but spent most of his childhood in Steubenville. He was employed by Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel where he was an industrial engineer for 35 years. He attended both Miami University and Kent State University before enlisting in the military. He was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Army from 1960-1964.
Bob was an avid sports fan and athlete who played football, basketball and baseball for Steubenville High School. As a hobby, he was very proud of the work he did with the area athletes connecting them with local colleges.
Bob was a member of the Big Red Boosters Club, Steubenville Chapter of the National Management Association, American Legion Post 888 Columbus, Ohio, Florida State Boosters Club and the Upper Ohio Valley Dapper Dan Club. He was also a member of the Labelle View United Methodist Church and Crossroads Christian Church.
Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife Jane to Florida, taking walks in Belleview Park with his canine companions, Mandy, Mindy and Brandy, and playing with his grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Thursday, August 30, 10 a.m. in the chapel at The Whetstone Gardens and Care Center, 3710 Olentangy River Rd, Columbus, OH 43214, with a reception to follow.
To honor Bob’s lifelong passion and commitment of advocating for the future of high school football players, the family has established a one-time memorial football scholarship.
Funds will be divided equally and presented to one deserving senior football player at each of the Steubenville and Worthington Kilbourne high schools.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to this fund, payable to PNC BANK, with re: Robert Lewis Football Scholarship in the memo only, and sent to Worthington Kilbourne High School, 1499 Hard Road, Columbus, OH 43235 in care of Dyanne Lewis.
