Robert Jones Jr.

Robert E. Jones, Jr. (Bob) 92 of Columbus, OH born 6.17.1929, passed away peacefully 8.8.2021 at 9:36 p.m. with beloved family by his side at Glenwood Alzheimer’s Special Care Center, Dublin OH.

Preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert E. and Betty Jones. Survived by his wife of 72 years, Florence Marie Jones (Lechner), daughters Julie (Michael-deceased) Fleer, Janice Evans, JoAnne Jones, and Joyce (Wayne) Rhinehart, Grandchildren Michael (Abbey) Fleer, Amy Fleer, LeAnne (Ken) Frankenberg, Steven (Jennifer) Balmert, Brian (Shelly) Evans, Scott (Ryan) Evans. Great-grandchildren Ashley (Travis) Jarrell, Zach (Lauren) Fleer, Kyle Fleer, Blake, Tyler, and Carson Balmert, Callie Evans. Great-Great-grandchildren, Ava, Addie, and Luke Jarrell, Brother-in-Law John (Judy) Lechner, many nieces and a nephew and countless loving friends.

Alumni of Columbus West High School class of 1948. Attended OSU, as a young man Bob worked as a sports writer for the International News Service, W.R. Grace, and longtime valued employee and Plant Superintendent of The 7:UP Bottling company where he retired in 1993. Bob was an avid OSU Buckeye fan and huge Woody Hayes fan. He was always proud of the fact he attended the OSU Snow Bowl in 1950. Bob was an outstanding husband, friend, and father. He made each of his 4 daughters feel as though they were his favorite. A “Celebration of Life” to follow in the coming months. The family would like to give a very special thank you to Glenwood Alzheimer’s staff, nurses, and caregivers as well as the very caring nurses from Heartland Hospice.

No funeral showings however Bob’s cremation will be handled by Shaw-Davis Funeral Homes.
