Richard Shantery, 50, of Powell, PH, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016 in an accident. He was adopted from Allentown, PA in January 1966 by the late Catherine (McCue) and Richard Shantery of Cleveland, OH. He was a wonderful father to his 2 children, Amanda and Aiden; he is also survived by his ex-wife, Diane Shantery, to whom he was married for 21 years. He was a loving brother, survived by his sister Renee (Matt) Shantery-Lawson; and a caring uncle, survived by Aric and Cayla. Rick was a member of the Columbus Division of Police for 11 years and left to run his company, NMP Consulting, which he put much hard-work and love in to for many years. Outside of work, Rick enjoyed cosplaying and travelling to run games at conventions- many friends knew him as either Jack Burton or the Ninth Doctor. He also loved riding his motorcycle anywhere and everywhere, especially when joined by the company of the close friends he rode with frequently. He and the group that he rode with participated in many fundraising and charity rides. He made friends with everyone he came into contact with and always made sure those around him were happy and having fun. A service in Rick’s honor will be held Monday, September 12th, 2016 at SHAW-DAVIS FUNERAL HOMES, 4341 N. High St, Columbus, OH, from 5-8pm. There will be another service in Cleveland, Friday, September 16, 2016, at St. Columbkille Church, 6740 Broadview Road, Parma, OH, beginning at 11am. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations are suggested to the Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio, or to any Catholic charities.
