Paul Helm

Paul F. Helm, 53, of Worthington, was a loving husband and father who never hesitated to help out anyone who needed a hand. He died Monday, March 13, 2017, surrounded by his family at the Kobacker House Hospice Care Center of Columbus.

He fought a long and courageous battle against cancer in the same way he lived the rest of his life: with dogged determination and eternal optimism.

Paul was a longtime cherished member of the Ultimate Frisbee community of Columbus. He could be counted on to bring the tunes, and as one of the city’s best “handlers,” was always right on target when he dished the disc. He was a true ambassador of the sport, and took numerous younger players under his wing through the years.

He had a passion for the outdoors, liked to design, tinker and fix things, and wear shorts in winter.  Along with the playing paradise he built for his kids and their friends in the back yard, he had a special knack with old stereo equipment.

He was director of tech support at Auto-Des-Sys, supporting customers worldwide who use the company’s architecture modeling software. He was a proud graduate of Carleton College in Minnesota and received his graduate degree from the Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Tracey Trgovac M.D., their son, Eddie, 13, and daughter, Charlotte, 12, all of Worthington; his parents, Anne and James Helm of Oberlin, Ohio; his brother Bennett (Karen) Helm of Lancaster, Pa.; mother-in-law, Jackie Trgovac  of Youngstown; as well as several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews across the country.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 17, at Shaw-Davis Funeral Home, Clintonville Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at St. Thomas More Newman Center, 64 W. Lane Ave., with a luncheon following at the Newman Center’s Social Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Camp Kesem at The Ohio State University, or to the Kobacker House.
