Mrs. Nellia “Sue” Blanton (née Varney), of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Friday, March 24th, 2017 surrounded by her family at the Age of 72, after a long battle with several illnesses.
Sue was born to parents Lafayette and Marie Varney on February 14th, 1945 in Crum, West Virginia before the family moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1957. She grew up as the eldest of 5 children and attended Gahanna Lincoln High School.
Sue married the love of her life, Johnnie “Big John” Blanton, Sr., on October 21st, 1963. Johnnie and Sue had 3 children. Sue is survived by Daughter, Michelle Coleman (John Gore) of Columbus; Sons, Johnnie Blanton II (Wife Lisa) and James Edward (Wife Lisa) of Columbus; 5 grandchildren- Richard Coleman, Jr., Zack Gore, Emily Blanton, Elisa Blanton and Johnnie Blanton III; and 2 great-grandchildren- Vincent and Henry Coleman. Sisters, Joanetta Smith (Husband Gary, Son Tim) of West Virginia, Rita Agresta (Husband Fred, Daughters Angela, Andrea and Alissa and Son Tony) of Logan Ohio; Brother William Varney (Orlissa) of Alabama and Sister in Law, Robin Varney of Millersport Ohio; Many Nieces and Nephews; Aunt, Hattie Varney; Cousin, Carol (Leonard) Preston and lifelong Best Friend, Rosalee Gillman, also of Columbus Ohio.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie “Big John” Blanton, Sr.; Parents- Marie and Lafayette Varney, Sister- Nila Varney; many Aunts, Uncles and cousins. All dearly missed.
Sue was a long time member of the Columbus United Baptist Church until becoming a member of Rohr Road Baptist Church and was dedicated to her faith and her family all her life. Her happiness was her Family, especially her Grand Children and Great Grand Children. Her life was her Faith, which never faltered. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her great peace.
Sue wished to be cremated and laid to rest beside her love, Johnnie Blanton, Sr. Due to her long illness, she did not wish for a showing, but a simple memorial after her cremation to celebrate her life.
A memorial is planned and family and friends are invited to attend the memorial to celebrate the life of Nellia Sue Blanton.
