Monica “Miss Lady” Wayns was born on November 12, 1963, in Cambridge, Maryland to Daisy and John Wayns. She departed this earthly life on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center following an extended and courageous battle with breast cancer. Monica was raised in Cambridge, Maryland where she attended and graduated from Cambridge South Dorchester High School. After high school Monica spent some time in Texas before moving to Columbus, Ohio in the early Eighties.
Monica loved concerts and festivals. She spent many summer days and nights in Downtown Columbus attending outdoor music festivals, Juneteenth celebrations, Arts Festivals, any place she could mix and mingle with people, eat good food and spend time with family and friends. Monica never met a stranger, so she didn’t mind walking through the crowd having conversations with people from all walks of life. She always made the most out of every outing! When she saw someone, she remembered, she was quick to say, “Don’t I know you from somewhere? Yeah, I met you somewhere, it will come to me.” Eventually she would remember where she knew them from. She loved good food, good company and good music. Monica could be found many days sitting on her porch just feeling the breeze and listening to music, something her daughters loved to do with her. Monica had been a member of the Mystery One Social Club for several years where she was affectionately known as “Miss Lady”. She loved dressing up to go out, but the outfit was not complete without her signature red lipstick!
Most of all Monica loved her family, especially her daughters Nieja and Olympia; her two grandchildren Janie and Manuel. She loved spending time with all her family members. Monica was always positive and always had a smile on her face. She lived life to its fullest. Not even her cancer diagnosis could change her positive outlook and joyous demeaner.
Monica was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Owen & Mabel Ross; paternal grandparents James & Gladys Dickerson; parents John & Daisy Wayns; She leaves behind to cherish her memory daughters, Nieja Wayns; Olympia Wayns; brothers, Donnell Wayns; Owen Wayns; 2 grandchildren Janie Wayns; Manuel Torres III; special cousin Judy Ross and a host of aunts; cousins; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
