Melissa L. Schmitz was born on November 7, 1969, in Columbus, Ohio. A devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend, she peacefully passed away on March 18, 2025, surrounded by love. Melissa never wanted others to worry about her, and those fortunate enough to know her, even briefly, were profoundly touched by her unwavering dedication to serving others. Her heart overflowed with kindness, her work ethic was tireless, and her positive attitude could brighten even the darkest days.
A creative force with limitless energy, Melissa was a natural leader. Her ability to inspire and motivate others, coupled with her selflessness, made her a beacon of hope and strength in her community. She was always the first to offer a helping hand, a kind word, or valuable guidance, and her legacy of service will be cherished by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Melissa is preceded in death by her father, David Kunz, and her stepfather, Michael Ryan. She leaves behind her beloved daughters, Kayla Scott and Deja Sanders, and is also a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren: Hayden Sanders, Hayzel Crosby, Legend Sanders, Legacy Sanders, and Lennox Thigpen. Additionally, she is survived by her loving mother, Wendy Ryan; stepsister Amy Ryan (Bill Boyd); stepbrother Bryan Ryan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, her aunt Sherry Erickson (Dave), and cousins Dianne Bishop (Chris) and John Erickson (Michelle).
Though she departed this world too soon, her spirit continues to shine through the lives she touched, the lessons she imparted, and the unconditional love she gave. Melissa's heart was one of the purest, her hands worked tirelessly, and her presence was a light to all who knew her.
Forever in our hearts, Melissa Schmitz will be dearly missed but will always be remembered.
