Matthew A Hays

June 12, 1971 — August 14, 2024

Matthew A Hays of Columbus OH was born on June 12, 1971 and passed away on August 14, 2024.

Matthew's angels were ready to guide him through his next journey. He had battled stage 4 esophageal cancer that had already metastasized to the liver when he got the diagnosis. Matthew will be dearly missed by family and friends. He never met a stranger and could sit and talk to anyone about anything.

Matthew was a graduate of St Charles and attended The Ohio State University. He was also a rotary exchange student in Thailand.

Matthew was well read, with interests in different cultures and religions and all kinds of animals, including reptiles and mammals. He is survived by his wife Shawn, his mother Virginia (Alan), brother David (Karen), his children Echo, Brian (Stacey), Joe (Amanda), Brittany (Jeff), and his grandchildren Bentley, Rowan, Tanner, Remy, Keerah, Gabriel, and Noah.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents on both sides, his father James N Hays, his sons Jason and Jason Roavanyi, and many friends from all over the world.

The family would like to thank all of the palliative doctors at the office of Dr Augustine Hong at the Columbus Oncology Associates, Riverside Methodist hospital. A very special thank you to Dr S Graham.

A very special thank you to his high school friend Chris Henthorne, who took the time every day to stop in and check on him and the family. They would watch movies together, reminisce, tell stories, and laugh at the things they did as teenagers. Matthew looked forward to seeing his friend everyday.

The memorial is set for Sept 29 at the residence of his wife and grandson.

In lieu of flowers, please donate a perennial or plant in his name, to be planted at his home in his memory.
