Martin James Moran

Martin “Marty” Moran passed away at home from natural causes on May 23, 2023 at age 62. He was born on December 21, 1960 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Martin Joseph and Florence Regina (née McClurkin) Moran. He was a 1979 graduate of Ursuline High School in Youngstown. Marty always had a smile on his face and he was known for his wisecrack jokes, infectious laugh, and horrible puns. His two boys were the light of his life and he loved adventuring with them to find the best anything— pizza, donuts, thrift store, arcade, you name it. He loved showing his sons his childhood and passed on his love of retro monster movies, cartoons, candy and more. He spent nearly 30 years in the culinary industry as a classically French-trained chef, and after a lengthy apprenticeship at The Refectory, continued to hone his craft on the western coast of Ireland. He shared his talents while working in various restaurants along with perfecting recipes of his own. Marty could prepare a meal that could be found in a 5-star restaurant at the drop of a hat but he spent years perfecting his famous chili dog sauce, pizza and many more. In addition to his own recipes, he spent years cracking “secret sauce” recipes from any restaurant you could think of. While Marty was a skilled chef; he was a beloved father, brother, uncle and a friend to many.

Marty is survived by his sons Martin Thomas “Tommy” and John Kevin “Jack” Moran; siblings Karen Reardon, Mary (Walter) Krygowski, Grace (Terri McConnell) Moran, Re (Rick) Ryznar; five nephews, seven nieces and eleven great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Kevin Moran and brother-in-law William “Bill” Reardon.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 12-2pm at Shaw-Davis Funeral Home, 4341 N. High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214. Private interment to follow at a later date.
