Martha Douds

Martha Ellen (DeBruyne) Douds, 60, of Lancaster OH, passed away surrounded by her family on June 2, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was born on April 4, 1961 in Beloit, Wisconsin to the late Carol (Corpe) DeBruyne and Henry DeBruyne Jr.

Martha graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1979 and Viterbo University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She started her career working in Labor and Delivery as a nurse at the Ohio State University Medical Center, and later spent over 30 years working as a legal nurse consultant. Martha enjoyed traveling, art festivals, and making people laugh. She had a deep love for basset hounds and had rescued and fostered several “honey hounds”, as she called them, in the last 10 years. She was known for her compassion, sense of humor, and proud use of “four letter functional words.”

Martha is survived by her loving husband of 35 years Terry Douds, her daughters Alison Douds and Lillian Douds, her older siblings Julie (Eric) Lipke, Louise (John) Berg, and John (Kristi) DeBruyne, her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and her three cats lovingly known as the Trio of Terror™.

In following Martha’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. There will be a gathering and celebration of life Friday, June 11, 2021, from 3 to 5 pm, at the Shaw-Davis Clintonville Chapel, 4341 N. High St., Columbus, OH, 43214 (just south of Henderson & High next to Maple Grove Methodist Church), then there will be fellowship, food and drink at the Clintonville Woman’s Club, 3951 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214 (next to Whetstone Recreation Center) from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Buckeye Basset Hound Rescue.
