Obituary for Lois Lizabeth Loudon Stevenson:

Lois Lizabeth Loudon Stevenson, age 84, passed away peacefully October 3rd, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Preferring to be called Alexandra (Alexa) she was born May 16th, 1932 to Frank R. Loudon and Betty Belle Jones Loudon in Nighthawk, Washington. She spent her early years growing up in the Okanogan County area where she had to ride a horse to and from school; with her first marriage to Hal Coder she moved to Lewiston, Idaho and Spokane, Washington.  With her second marriage to Tom Stevenson Alexa also resided in Portland, Oregon and eventually moved to San Francisco, Ca in the early 1960’s where she spent most of her adult life and accomplished her goal of completing her education.

She received an Associate degree in Library Technology from City College of San Francisco in 1972 and a BA in Social Work from San Francisco State University in 1977. Alexa completed her education while raising her youngest child as a single parent and working part time. She had a keen intelligence, a love of knowledge and a desire to help others reach their potential especially those who were struggling. She worked as a Social Worker for the City and County of San Francisco during the 1970s. She volunteered at Halfway houses and a Methadone clinic in the Haight Ashbury. She adored cats.

In 2004, Alexandra moved to Columbus, Ohio to be near her daughter Tomasina where she resided until her death. Alexa was a lifetime avid reader, usually a book a day; she was passionate about art, music (from the Rolling Stones to Vivaldi) and poetry. She could also rattle off Hints from Heloise at the drop of a hat if needed and was an excellent conversationalist with a wicked sense of humor right up to the end. She wanted to be certain she could vote in the upcoming presidential election and made sure she was registered to vote during one of her recent hospital stays even though she was ill.

Alexa is survived by her children, Tomasina Stevenson Wall, (Franklin) of Columbus, Ohio, Stephanie Coder Spangler (David) of Happy Valley, Oregon, and Jeffrey R. Coder (Margaret) of Mountlake Terrace, Washington. She was preceded in death by her son, Randall Scott Coder in 2001 and her by her older sister Virginia Loudon Rogers. Additionally survived by her lovely grandchildren, Garth Wall and Isabelle Wall Trepkoski of Columbus; Matthew Coder, Tiffany Gullberg, Jordan Spangler, Nora VandenBerghe, and Daniel Coder, residing on the West coast, and five great-grandchildren.

Alexa Stevenson’s family wishes to especially thank the stellar staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital for their highly skilled medical expertise, professionalism, and kind and compassionate care of our mother. You walked this journey with us and will always be remembered fondly. We are so grateful to each of you who participated in our mothers care. The Shaw Davis Funeral Home provided cremation services. The family wishes to express their thanks for the kind, patient and respectful service provided.

Memorial Service and Interment of remains will be held Friday, October 28th, 2:00pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church 700 High Street, Worthington, Ohio.
