Kathleen Lynn English

Kathleen (Bullen) English, 72, passed away on January 16th, 2025. She was born on March 25, 1952, in Wilmington, Ohio, to Orba E. (Carey) Bullen and Hubert L. Bullen. 

She is survived by her daughter, Amber English, and three granddaughters, Tiana English (14), Ariana English (9), and Aliyah English (8); sisters and spouses Brenda Fawley, Nancy Garner, and Rosemary Brammell (Tom); sisters-in-law Phyllis M. Bullen and Phyllis I. Bullen; and many other family members and long-time friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert L. Bullen and Orba E. (Carey) Bullen; daughter, Tarah R. English (33), brothers and spouses, Kenneth (Elva) Bullen, Ronald (Polly) Bullen, Darrell (JoAnne) Bullen, Carey Bullen, and Larry Bullen; sisters, Barbara Strickland, Sue Bullen and Ruth (Arnold) Lansing.

Kate graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, specializing in Landscape Horticulture. Kate contributed her knowledge and passion for horticulture to the community around her. She was a dedicated member of the Master Gardener Club. As a volunteer, she provided educational services to beautify and develop community and demonstration gardens. At Ohio State University, she was a Phenology Garden Volunteer Coordinator. She was also on the Willow Tree Mapping Team at The Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens, and a Tree Inventory Volunteer at the Ohio Research and Development Center. 

Kate inherited her love of plants from her mother and has passed it down to her daughter and granddaughters. Kate’s flowers were her joy and therapy, and every year, her flower beds were spectacular. Many people sought out Kate’s expertise when it came to plants. During her numerous hospitalizations, doctors and nurses who rotated off her floor would return to her room with pictures of plants for her to identify or give advice on care. She was in her element! Even when struggling with health issues, she faithfully continued gardening. 

Kate married and started her family in Corning, New York. She had two daughters whom she homeschooled and led to the Lord. She dedicated her life to her daughters and granddaughters and was always there for them. She was a caregiver for 13 years to her daughter, Tarah, who had a debilitating illness. She was Mimi to her granddaughters and loved introducing her grandchildren to new places and experiences. She was so grateful to be able to share time with them. 

Kate was a person of great faith and instilled that faith in her daughters and granddaughters. She was a witness to many. She attended Rock City Church in Hilliard and loved going to her small group on Tuesday evenings, which brought her much joy. On Tuesday mornings, she also attended one with her beloved sister, Rosemary. 

She will be remembered for her strong faith, caring personality, and loving dedication to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by many. 

Calling hours will be held on February 1st, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Shaw-Davis Funeral Home, 4341 North High Street, Columbus, OH 43214. A celebration of life service will be immediately following—Pastor Jeff Webb officiating. Family and friends attending this service will have an opportunity to share a memory or something they learned from Kate as part of the service.
