Karen Tiernan (May) Thorp, beloved sister, aunt and friend, went home to her Creator on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in Columbus, OH. Preceded by her mother Patricia Gregg May in 2007 and recently by her grandma Dorthy Shannon May. She leaves behind her father, Dr. Eugene and Ileana May, her brothers, Michael May, David May and fiancee Amber Miller; her sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen (May) & Paul Ventling; her niece, Tullia Ventling; her aunts and uncles, Pam and Al Amon,(sister to her mother Patricia), Mary Ellen (May) and Don Carr, Margie (May) and David Rawn, Jim May and Mary Steed-May, Sheila M. May, Terri (May) and Gary Rosenthal, as well as numerous cousins, relatives and friends.
Karen was born on November 13, 1970 in Altus Oklahoma.
She graduated from Bishop Watterson High School in 1989;, and graduated college at The Ohio State University in 1994 with a Bachelors of Science in Education. She taught kindergarten at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, outside Phoenix, AZ where she lived from 1996 to 2008. She eventually returned to Ohio, where she taught preschool and then became a cherished nanny.
Karen’s life was dedicated to being in loving service to others. She was a teacher and served children with care and love. She was a dedicated, enthusiastic member of Columbus Center for Spiritual Living, where she was always quick to give a smile or a hug.
Karen believed in kindness toward people and the world. Her happiness and joyful laugh will be missed so much by her friends, fellow Center members, and most of all, by her family. Her sudden passing is a tremendous loss for her family and many beloved friends who will miss her positive presence daily.
She had such a positive outlook on life and her easy and infectious laughter filled many a room.
She was loyal, had a great sense of humor and a love for life.

There will be a memorial service on Sunday the 31st of July from 1 to 3pm at the Shaw -Davis Funeral Home located at 4341 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214
