Judge Elia Larocca

In Loving Memory

Judge Elia M. Larocca, 85, of Columbus, Ohio, a loving widower, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2014.  He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth R. Larocca, this past February 9, 2014.   Known to his family, friends and co-workers as “Al”,  he was born in Brooklyn, New York to Michael and Mary Larocca on April 3, 1929.  Al married Ruth on April 3, 1954.  He received his bachelor’s degree from St. Francis College, his law degree from Fordham Law School and his Master’s Degree in International Relations from Columbia University.  Al practiced law in Newburgh, New York, Fresno, California and Bismark, North Dakota  and maintained his love of law throughout his life.  He loved his New York Sports teams, and hosted local radio programs focusing on community and political issues in Newburgh and Fresno.  Al was appointed Federal Judge for the Social Security Administration and served in Puerto Rico before moving to Columbus, Ohio in April 2003.  Al is survived by his son; Lawrence J. Ahenakew and his wife, Mary of New Windsor, New York; daughters, Miriam Larocca of Jewett City, Connecticut, and Yvette Larocca of Hanalei, Hawaii; and grandsons Milo Ahenakew and Brenden Ferraro, both of Los Angeles, California.  The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Zusman Hospice.  A funeral service will be held 5 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 with visitation 1 hour prior at SHAW DAVIS VICTORIAN VILLAGE CENTRAL CHAPEL, 34 West 2nd Avenue, Columbus OH 43201. Internment will take place at Union Cemetery on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 10 a.m. Dad, we love you and miss you, Larry, Miriam and Yvette.
