Jon Green (Aka, Bubbles, Hazard)
As the sun began its ascent into the sky Thursday, September 14 the hearts of many shattered upon hearing the news that Jon William Green, better known as Bubbles and Hazard to his friends, left this earth to brighten the heavens with his terrific fashion sense, fierce loyalty, and dedication to helping those less fortunate.
Jon was born August 26, 1965 and graduated from the Worthington Alternative High School. He worked for various chapters of the Association for Adults with Developmental Disabilities in Ohio, Oregon, and California, celebrating these lives for more than a decade. Jon also tended bar at Columbus-area establishments Surly Girl and Betty’s Place, as well as The Corporation in New Orleans. His heart belonged to the Big Easy, despite being chased out by Katrina like a lover scorned.
Jon was known for his philanthropic work to benefit the AIDS epidemic, tireless efforts to advocate for LGBT rights, and wonderful sense of community and camaraderie. He enjoyed watching the New Orleans’ Saints, attending the annual International Bull Riding Championship in Las Vegas, and listening to live music. He was a constant fixture at ComFest, especially when the fair was in its infancy.
Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bud and Alice Green and Glenn and Norma Davis, and lifelong friend, Ted “Hubcap” Rau. He is survived by his mother, Dianne (Ted) Davis-Fox and father, Bill (Veda) Green; step-siblings, Dawn (Mike) Stockdale-Turner, Nikki Fox, Tracy Martin, Ashley Hayes, and Adam Larkin; aunts, Teresa (Rick) Dean, Kathy Brookbank, and Diana Rains; uncles, Patrick (Betty) Davis, Glenn (Brenda) Davis, Danny Green, and Mike (Danielle) Green; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends worldwide; and his beloved dog, Sammy. He also leaves behind his best friend and shining star, Ginny “Nova” Sanders and her children (and his godchildren), Trane and Luci. Together Nova and Bubbles shared nearly three decades of laughter and heartbreak, triumphs and tribulations; a friendship forged in youth, tended to by time, and cherished now and always.
A memorial service celebrating Jon’s life will be held Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Franklinton Playhouse (566 West Rich Street, Columbus). Friends and family are welcome from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and are encouraged to bring their favorite memories to honor and remember the amazing life he led.
