John A. Wolfe, passed away 6 days shy of his 100th birthday. He was born January 24, 1924 in Gahanna, Ohio. He died January 18, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Loretta J (Hatfield), son Victor (Becky), daughter Jonetta (Tom) Waalkens and sister Betty Prushing.
Preceded in death by parents Rev. William and Elizabeth Wolfe, son Thomas, sisters Amy Smith, Catherine Krumm, Patricia Dickendesher; brothers Richard, William and Theodore Wolfe.
John was fondly called “pops”, “papa” and “grampa” by his nine grandchildren Weston, Michelle, Zachary (Carrie), Christine, Liz (Zach), Joe (Baylei) Stacie, Alannah and Cassandra (Bryce). Ten great grandchildren Leyton, Heath, Walton, Vera, Ariana, Hannibal, Oona, Kolton, Lydia and Oaklynn.
Graduated Lincoln High School class of 1942. John lettered in football, track and basketball. Served in the United States Army 1943-1945. Went to North Africa and Italy as a communications switch board operator.
Employed by Jeffrey Mining Company for 37 years, 10 years manager of Sub-Contract. Later employed by Meijer N Hamilton Road. Served 10 years Gahanna City Council.
John spent his youth making many friends in Gahanna. Riding his bike and fishing Big Walnut Creek, he spent many nights along the river in a tarp tent with his friends. Helping to earn money he worked at Shadwick’s Hardware Store and mowed lawns in the community.
