HENSEL

John E. Hensel, aged 72 of Westerville passed away December 7th, 2016. He was born January 19, 1944 to parents Nelson and Regina Hensel in Columbus, Ohio. John graduated from Bishop Hartley High School in 1962. He served his country in the Army with rank of sergeant, 758 light maintenance, and later Army Reserve. He was a pilot, skydiver and instructor. If you didn’t know John you would never guess he was such a thrill seeker. If you went to the fair he was the first to bungee jump, if you went to Las Vegas with him you would find yourself at the Stratosphere, top floor watching him get on the roller coaster that went out over the building into the air. He loved to go to Las Vegas as well as his entire family. They would all meet there every January for a reunion, and it was wild. Many of his friends called him Casino John. He was co-owner and manager of Gabby’s Pub and was very active in this role until the day he died. He has made many friends there through the years. He was also part of the AA family, with 30 years of sobriety. John wasn’t married nor did he have children but he had a bid extended family and Uncle John was always included in all family gatherings. John leaves behind brothers and sisters, N. William “Bill” Hensel, Ann (Simon) Grossmayer, Janet (Edmund) Page, Judy (Emil) Klein, Ted Hensel and Susan (Richard) Debevec. Many special nieces and nephews, as well as special friends, Rick and Donna Cautela. Cremation entrusted to Shaw-Davis Funeral Home. Visit guest book online at shaw-davis.com. Friends and family wishing to make a memorial donation may direct their contribution to their preferred charity. A private family service will be held at a later date.
