Jo Ann Orr 79, of Granville died December 6, 2016 at Licking Memorial Hospital. Jo Ann was a 1960 graduate of the OSU College of Education, received an MA from Xavier University and did graduate work at OSU in guidance and counseling and teaching English as a second language and had a major in social studies.
She was born August 16, 1937 at home in Heath. She was preceded in death by her parents Harmon Joseph Orr and Mildred Grace Williams Orr, her younger brother Dr. Joseph Harmon Orr, and his oldest son David Harmon Orr, both sets of grandparents Grover and Bessie Orr and Elmer and Nelle Williams. Survivors include a brother Robert Marion Orr (Connie) of Utica and sister in law, Ona Mae Orr, nephews Michael, Gregory, Dan, Douglas, nieces Lynetta, Julie, Deborah plus 17 great nieces and nephews, Clayton, Christopher, Zachary, Eric, JD, Nate, Cassie, Ryan, Ridgley, Lydia, Sarah, Ashley, Elizabeth, Rachel, Emily, Sarah, Todd, Taylor, Trina, and Kelly.
Jo Ann belonged to several churches in the course of her life but loved attending Bible studies such as Bible Study Fellowship which is held throughout the world. She grew up in First Presbyterian Church in Newark.
Jo Ann was a teacher and librarian in several school systems. She taught social studies for the Dept. of Defense in Japan for the Air Force and for the Army in Seoul, Korea where she had students from all branches of the services, missionary children and USOM (the agency that dispenses the aid that Congress appropriates) and lots of embassy students from all over the world. She loved to travel and traveled often on six continents visiting all 50 states and over a hundred countries.
Visitation will be held on December 18, 2016 at 3:00pm and a service will follow at 3:30pm at Kendall of Granville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Newark or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be expressed at www.Shaw-Davis.com .
