James Gusty, 86, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, at the Ohio State University Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
James will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather who placed family above all else. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Gusty; his children, Andrew Sr. (Jennifer), Victoria (Donny Glosser), and Daniel (Shauna); his cherished grandchildren, Alyssa, Andrew Jr., Annabelle, Angelina, James, Donovan, Benjamin, Amelia, Cameron, Jack, Charles, Arianna, Scarlett, and Brody; and his great-granddaughter, Paisley. His family brought him the greatest joy, and his legacy of love and dedication will live on in their hearts.
James proudly served his country as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, including two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. His bravery and skill earned him two Distinguished Flying Crosses and multiple Air Medals for valor. Over the course of his military career, James piloted not only helicopters but also B-52 bombers as part of Strategic Air Command as well as C-141 Starlifters.
In 1965, James married the love of his life, Patricia, and together they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. After retiring from the Air Force, James transitioned to a career as an attorney and investor in residential and commercial real estate. His academic accomplishments were extensive, earning an undergraduate degree from Ohio State University, a law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law, and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
A service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at the chapel at Union Cemetery located at 3349 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43202.
James’s life was one of service, achievement, and deep love for his family and country. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
