A Life Full of Song, Service, and Laughter
James David Emmitt, known to all as Jim, passed away peacefully on May 10th, 2024, at the age of 88. Born in Columbus, Ohio on December 12th, 1935, to Thelma and George Emmitt.
From a young age, Jim's voice soared. He was a proud member of the Columbus Boy Choir school, graduating in 1950. This love for music continued throughout his life, with him even participating in high school theater productions alongside his athletic pursuits on the football field. Columbus Central High School saw Jim graduate in 1954, a well-rounded young man with a winning personality.
Jim's commitment to service extended beyond the stage. He served as President of the Franklin County Young Democrat Party in 1965, demonstrating his passion for civic engagement. After a successful career with the Franklin County Board of Elections, Jim retired, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to his community.
Jim's love for the outdoors was undeniable. He found peace and joy on countless fishing trips, his laughter echoing by the water. He will be remembered for his infectious humor, a quality that brightened the lives of all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Darlene Emmitt, and their loving children, James Emmitt (Jenn) and Julie Emmitt Carmona (Scott Preece). He leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Giovanni Carmona and Katie Emmitt. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Katie, George, and Barbara.
Jim Emmitt, a man of service, laughter, and love for his family and community, will be deeply missed.
The family invites friends and relatives to celebrate Jim's life on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Shaw Davis Funeral Home in Clintonville. Interment will follow immediately at Union Cemetery.
