Henry Clay Nelson, age 79, passed away September 20, 2017. He was born in David, Kentucky on December 25, 1937 to parents Wiley and Martha (Shepherd) Nelson. Henry was employed as a coal miner in Kentucky for 25 years. He was nicknamed “Green Jeans,” for his love of working outside. Henry enjoyed taking care of his two dogs Majesty and Destiny and was married to his beloved wife Rachel (Maynes) Nelson. He is preceded in death by his parents Wiley and Martha (Shepherd) Nelson; Sisters Ruby Arnt and Elle Shepherd; brothers Bill Nelson, Thomas Nelson, and Clark Nelson. Survived by wife Rachel (Maynes) Nelson; child Roman (Kellie) Maynes and biological children David (Tim) Nelson, Suzy (Dennis) Bradford, and Maria (Ronnie) Goodman; grandchildren Clark (Reka) Bradford, Rachel (Chad) Damron, Kelly Gardener, and Hallie Young; great-grandchildren Dalton, Hannah, and Cody; siblings Charles (Ruth) Nelson, Rosie Shepherd, Nancy (Marvin) Jones, and Judy (Randall) Calhoun.
A military service will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third St, Dayton, Ohio 45428 at 1 pm.
