Harry Lee Hanson, age 84, passed away November 30, 2017 at Danbury Senior Living Facility in Columbus, Ohio after a lengthy illness. He was a long time resident of Ashland, Ohio. Harry was born on October 11, 1933 in Martin’s Ferry, Ohio to parents Harry Otto Hanson and Pearl Douglass Hanson. Harry was a 1951 Graduate of St. Clairsville High School and then enlisted in the Army from 1953 to 1956 and served in the Special Forces as an Army Ranger. He was a very devoted employee of Ohio Edison for 38 years, starting as a lineman and working up to management. On October 25, 1957 he married Patricia Jean Wagner and remained married until her passing in 2007 just a few months short of 50 years. He enjoyed many years of bowling and watching his children’s sports events and community sports and loved his Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. Some of his greatest times in life were when he and his wife rode across the country many times often stopping to visit each son on each coast. They visited all 50 states on their Honda GoldWing motorcycle and even into British Columbia. Harry enjoyed being involved in the GoldWing Association for many years and was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Hanson. He is survived by his children, Jesse Hanson of Ashland, Ohio; Brian Hanson of Fremont, California; Gena Hanson Moore (Eric) of Westerville, Ohio; and David Roberts of Flowery Branch, Georgia; grandchildren McKenna Patrice Moore and Mitchell Moore of Westerville, Ohio and Zachariah Hanson of Georgia; siblings Lois Hanson Arnold of Canton, Ohio and Alan Hanson of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
There will be no services, arrangements handled by Shaw-Davis Funeral Home of Clintonville, Ohio.
