Harry A. "Hop" Bailey Jr.

Harry A. “Hop” Bailey Jr., age 72, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on April 21, 2023 surrounded by family.  Hop is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jackie Bailey, their boys Gabe (Gena), Jason (Carly), and Matthew (Kristina); 8 grandchildren who know him as PaPa (Gianna, Gabby, Addison, Beckett, Mack, Owen, Mae, and Grace), and his brothers Steve (Megan), Rick (Valerie), and Tim. 

Hop was a loving husband, wonderful father, and exceptional grandfather.  He coached many different sports for his boys and thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren as they began playing team sports. 

Hop was an excellent conversationalist that treated everyone with respect, he was a friend to everyone he ever met.  An excellent fire builder, Hop loved a roaring fire while discussing the merits of excess kindling.  Perhaps his favorite night of the year was Christmas, the only night of the year when Jackie would allow him to smoke in the house while next to the fireplace.  He was a lifelong basset hound owner that enjoyed fishing, sports, Diet Pepsi, kindling, steak, and small sports cars. Hop is preceded in death by his parents, Harry “The Hat” Bailey Sr., and his mother, Jane Johnson, as well as his four, always overfed basset hounds:  Rocky, Jordan, Max, and Palmer. 

Memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Shaw- Davis Funeral Home at 4341 N. High St, Columbus, OH 43214. Funeral service to celebrate Hop’s life will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at St. Andrew Catholic Church 1899 McCoy Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220.
