Harriet “Dickie” Stone, 91, passed away October 26, 2024 at Ganzhorn Suites in Powell, Ohio. She was born Harriet Hoffman on May 25, 1933 in Fremont, Ohio. She married Don Miller in 1954 and they had four daughters. After their divorce in 1973, she married the love of her life, Ernie Hambright of Midland, Texas. They eventually moved to their beloved farm in Tennessee, and were married 17 happy years until his death in 1990. At that time, she returned to Fremont until her marriage to Forrest Stone of Indianapolis, IN in 2003. He preceded her in death in 2010.
Also preceding her in death were her parents Merritt Hoffman and Daisy Nesbitt Hoffman, brother Donald (Dean) Hoffman, daughter Laurie Sistrunk, and infant grandson Louis D’Angelo.
She is survived by her daughters Debbie (Dennis) King, Barbara (Rick) D’Angelo and Donna (Jim) Drake, son-in-law Mike Sistrunk; grandchildren Jeremy, Natalie, Wesley, Eric, Melanie, Chelsea, Ellie, Abbey and 6 great-grandchildren.
Dickie was a fun-loving mother and grandmother who loved to sing silly songs, especially Scottish songs passed down from her family. She was an avid reader, who could read several books a week, and loved to pass them along to friends and family. She loved crossword puzzles and playing scrabble with her daughters, and would never pass up a good margarita. She enjoyed watching football, becoming a Miami Dolphins fan in the early 70’s, when the family lived in Miami. She was crazy about dogs, especially bulldogs. She owned a large collection of bulldog nicknacks along with stuffed toy bulldogs, her favorite being “Mel”. Anyone who visited Dickie in her home was jokingly introduced to Mel.
In January 2023, Dickie moved to Sunrise Senior Living in Dublin, Ohio and in October 2024 moved to the Ganzhorn Suites in Powell.
Dickie’s life will be celebrated as she wished, at The Depot Tavern in Fremont, Ohio on December 21, 2024, from 3-5pm. Friends are welcome to come by to share pizza and drink a toast to Dickie
If you would like to make a donation in her honor, the family suggests giving to the Alzheimer’s Association or Sandusky County Humane Society.
