Georgia Blum, born June 25, 1966, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family and friends, on Sunday, October 29. She was 51. She is survived by her mother, Arlene (Ford) Blum; husband of 20 years, Steve Herminghausen; and sister, Jennifer Blum. Her father, Charles Blum, precedes her in death.
Georgia was born in Cincinnati. She graduated from McAuley High School in 1984 and from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1988. While at Ohio Wesleyan she focused on Psychology and Biology and was active in music and social justice concerns. She also earned membership in several academic honors societies, including Phi Beta Kappa. It was on her first day at Ohio Wesleyan that she saw her future husband, Steve, and together they performed in many musical activities and worked on many social justice issues, helping to found the Peace and Justice House small living unit.
After graduating from OWU Georgia pursued graduate studies as an Ohio Board of Regents Fellow in natural resources at Ohio State before settling into a 20+ year career in technical communication. She maintained a lifelong love of music, nature, and animals, and she shared this love with others whenever possible. She was devoted to her friends and family, including her loving dog, Scout.
A celebration of Georgia’s life will be held at King Avenue United Methodist Church (299 King Ave, Columbus, OH 43201) on Sunday, November 5. Music begins at 2:00, with the service commencing at 2:30. A reception, featuring some of Georgia’s favorite foods along with music and singing, will follow. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St Ann Catholic Church in Cincinnati at a later date.
