George D. Wehner, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024, at the age of 81.
George was born February, 9th, 1943, in Warren, Ohio to Irene Wehner while his father, George E. Wehner was fighting in North Africa.
George worked diligently for the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he made many friends and contributed significantly to the community. His passions included his faith in God, his devotion to his family, and his love for gardening and trains.
George is survived by his loving sisters, Suzanne (Robert) Deery and Holly (Larry) Smallwood, his daughters, Jill Lausch and Cassandra (James) Cherichello, and sons Jacob and Todd Wehner. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren, Alexandria (Colin), Jordan (Ryan), Katherine, Giovanni, Megan, and Samuel, great-grandchildren, Ryder and Riley as well as his niece Stephanie (Wes) Dickerson, and nephews Robert (Brittany) and Ian Deery. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert Wehner.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate George's life on Monday, July 8th, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 3730 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio, 43123. Visitation will begin at 10 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 11 AM. A reception with lunch will follow.
George will be laid to rest next to his father at Grandview Cemetery in Salem, Ohio on July 9th.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in George’s name to Columbus Catholic Charities, reflecting his spirit of giving and community.
