Gene Lee Stauffer passed away on Sunday March 30, 2025. There are many things to say about Gene, Daddy, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle. He went to Ohio State to become a pharmacist, and at the same time, he became a passionate, devoted Buckeye fan. He never missed a football or basketball game until he was no longer physically able to go. In his career as a pharmacist at OSU and then Roxanne Labs, he was passionate about his work, never missing a day except when he had his appendix out.
But let’s get to the gist of who Gene was. He was by the side of his wife, Brenda, for 58 years, and oh, how he adored her. When they met, they were both young free spirits, and he quickly became enamored with beautiful Brenda. He wrote her many love letters and bought her an engagement ring so that no one else could snatch her up. Somehow, they were connected in a lovely, rare way, never far apart, and always expressing their love for each other.
As a father (Daddy) to Carolyn (Kiddo), he was there for her every single day, for every event in her life, all the way to the day he took his last breath. The support and love that he gave her were unmatched. He was also a powerful example to her. Gene ALWAYs tried to do the right thing, no matter what the situation. He was simply a good, good man. He shaped her life in unfathomable ways.
As a grandpa to Dylan and Kaya, he was even more amazing. Every event, every day from their birth, he was there to love, support, play, take them on adventures, and again, to set an example. They adored him and have countless memories with him to hold in their hearts. Their relationship with him was beyond special.
Finally, in the last half of his life, he discovered a new love – birds. He was an avid bird watcher and loved his walks in the woods armed with binoculars, scopes, and even waders sometimes. No one knew what he loved about his birds so much, but we like to believe that it was their freedom, diversity, and carefree nature. We also like to believe that he’s flying free with the birds now.
We will miss you so, so much. Go Bucks!
The memorial service will be held at Shaw-Davis Funeral Home on April 18, 2025 at 2 pm. Wear your Buckeye gear if you have it. Shaw-Davis is located at 4341 N. High St. in Clintonville. Instead of flowers, you can simply do a kind act in Gene’s honor.
