Fred Goad, Sr a cherished husband, brother, father and grandfather and great grandfather passed peacefully from this world on the evening of Tuesday, April 9th, at the age of 89. He was surrounded by the love and warmth of his family while an inpatient at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Fred was born on November 9, 1934, a son of the late Richard and Lula(Hatfield) Goad of Beech Creek, coming into a world he would leave significantly better than he found it.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Winifred Hatfield, Joy Duty, Jean Bates, Liza Hatfield, Lottie Mahon, and June Bailey and his brothers Elmer “Pete”, Carl, Harold, Joe, Eugene, Bobby, Lawrence, Jack, Roy, James, Jimmy Dale.
Fred worked for Borden milk company for 38 years, once he retired he worked security for Columbia Gas for 22 years. Finally retiring for good at the age of 78, always the hardest worker.
Fred came to Columbus in 1953, started dating Rebel and got married in 1956. Tthey were partners for life and great companions for each other. They lived in the University District most of there time here and loved the neighborhood and walked around when their health permitted. Fred did a Saturday morning bible study that he enjoyed the fellowship and made many friends. Fred was an avid sports fan, anyone who knew him knows he loved his New York Yankees, OSU Football, Cincinnati Bengals football and Columbus Clippers. He was also a devoted hunter, fisherman and was always proud of the buck mounted in his living room. He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music and visiting with him family.
Fred is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Rebel (Johnson) Goad; his son Fred Goad, Jr. and his wife Marcy. His grandchildren, Jessica (Goad) Stang her husband Taylor Stang of Avon Lake, Ohio and grandson Casey Goad of Columbus, Ohio. Their great grandchildren, Theodore and Matilda Stang of Avon Lake, Ohio. As well as his niece Charlene Mullins from Jackson, Ohio.
Fred is survived by his two sisters, Grethel Parker (Ronald ) of Mooresburg, TN and Faye Ferguson of Beech Creek, WV.
