Frank Bernhardt

Frank Bernhardt, formerly of Woodstock, GA, passed away on April 1, 2019 in Columbus, OH.  He was surrounded by his children and his former wife, Jill Krzynowek Bernhardt, to whom he was eternally grateful.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Christian and Jana (Bowling) Bernhardt of Roswell, GA, his son and daughter-in-law Mark and Jaime (Ridings) Bernhardt of Nixa, Missouri, daughter Sara Bernhardt of Columbus, OH, and daughter and son-in-law Katy and Kevin Hursh of Woodstock, GA.  He is also survived by six grandchildren: Wyatt Christian Bernhardt, William Allen Estes, Aryanna Grace Bernhardt, Maya Noel Hursh, Faith Romalee Bernhardt, and Riley Andrew Bernhardt.  He was so proud of all his children and incredibly fond of his grandchildren, to whom he was known affectionately as Opa.

Born in Norwalk, CT on March 21, 1952 to Herbert and Edith (Dietrich) Bernhardt, Frank was the first of his family to be born in the United States of America.  His sister, Jeanette, came along two years later and the family moved to Trumbull, CT.  He attended Trumbull High School where he was a member of the swim team and graduated in 1970.

Frank worked for most of his life as an incredibly talented and respected welder and metal fabricator.  When he retired in 2014, he engaged in the more enjoyable work of golf course maintenance.  Frank spent his final years in Columbus living with his daughter Sara and grandson William where he’d spend his days watching Godzilla movies and old westerns.  He taught his children the value of hard work, perseverance, and maintaining a simple life.  He always made time for his kids and supported them in their endeavors.  He would give his last dollar, which was too often the case, to help someone in need.  He was quick-witted and loved both knee-slappers and intelligent humor and he will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew and loved him.
