Ferne Junkins

Ferne J. Junkins, age 95, of Columbus, Ohio went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2020. Born in Bellaire, Ohio on December 18, 1924, to parents Bertha and Robert Carpenter. She was one of seven children, and the family resided in Shadyside for her entire childhood. Ferne graduated from Shadyshide High School in 1943, after which she met Steve Fusek and they had three beautiful children together. She worked many years in retail, after which time she switched to child care, and watched many children in her home for the last 30 years of her life. Throughout life Ferne enjoyed spending time in her garden, using her green thumb to cultivate all sorts of flowers. She also carried on the family tradition of being an excellent baker, her specialties were pies and cheesecakes, and even sold them for a period of time in Columbus. There was always a treat ready and waiting for those who came to visit with her.

Ferne is preceded in death by her parents Bertha and Robert Carpenter, brother John Carpenter, brother Warren “Tucker” Carpenter, sister Beulah Wells, brother Lewis “Tubby” Carpenter, sister Glenna Stone, and brother Ken Carpenter. She is survived by daughter Diana Fielding, daughter Linda (Don Gearon) Fusek, daughter Karen Hathaway, grandchildren Paige Fielding, Amy Fielding, Bethany Reilly, Eric (Raquel) Hathaway, Trace Hathaway, great-grandchildren Kenzie, Landen, Holden, Rhavyn, Durgan, Everly, and Xander, as well as many other loving family members and friends.

A memorial service in her honor will be held on Monday October 12, 2020 at the Shaw-Davis Funeral Homes, Clintonville Chapel. The family will receive guests from 2-3 pm, with the service beginning at 3 pm.
