Eric Schulte

October 11, 1949 — February 6, 2019

Eric Schulte took his last breath February 6, 2019 ending a decade long battle with Parkinsons. Always an athletic and active person this disease was a cruel irony. Eric was born to a Navy family on 11 October 1949 in San Diego, California. He is survived by his Mother, Emma K. Schulte; sister Judith Schubert; brother John Schulte; cousins, nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Eric joined the Army in 1968 and carried an M60 for 385 days in Vietnam with the 1st Calvary Division, earning the Air Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge and Service Medals. He attended Ohio State Univ., for two years before transferring to the California Maritime Academy. He worked on a research vessel that included a voyage to Tahiti. He preferred to work under the open sky and settled in Pascagoula, Mississippi in the 90's. Eventually he moved inland to Calhoun City where he staked out 63 acres of clear-cut land to terraform and worked as a surveyor to pay the bills. He was a wood carver and loved dogs, riding bicycles, helping people and staying busy. His passion was understanding the physical universe and devoured scientific journals. He never married and took care of his mother Emma for twenty years. N·o one who knew him will forget his smile and good nature.
