Edith Greentree

Edith Friedman Greentree, 95, passed away on June 28, 2018 at Wexner Heritage Village in Columbus, Ohio.

A native of Cleveland, Edie was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Henryand Sadie (Lesser) Friedman, brother Dr. Eugene Friedman, husband Dr. Leonard B. Greentree, and son Robert Greentree.

She is survived by her children, Jonathan Greentree, Amy Sue (Richard) Taylor, Esq., Dr. William (Sara) Greentree, and Hugh (Mae) Greentree, Esq.; grandchildren Richard (Jacqueline) Taylor, Charles (Kaylee) Greentree, Kip Taylor, and Henry Greentree; and great-grandchildren Evelyn and Verdan Taylor. She is also survived by cousin Saul (Bobbi) Yochelson, and nieces Dara (Phil) Pinkert and Jeudi Friedman.

She earned a bachelor ofarts degree in music education fromThe Ohio State University, and master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University.

Edie was a French horn player with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, and a life-long classical pianist.  She enjoyed being a piano accompanist for choirs at CSG and The Columbus Academy while her children went to school there. She was a patron of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Columbus Museum of Art, an active volunteer with B’nai B’rith, and acted in numerous skits at Winding Hollow Country Club.  She was a lifetime supporter of The Ohio State University, and her only regret was she attended in an era when women were not allowed in the marching band.  Nonetheless, she took pride in helping arrange the marching steps and patterns for "Script Ohio."

In addition to her love ofmusic, she was a die-hard Cleveland Indians fan, datingback to when the teamplayed at League Park. She loved dogs, especiallyher Sealyhamterrier, Dachshund, Doberman Pinscher and Belgian Tervurens.

A private memorial service will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery. The family extends special thanks to nurses, caregivers and staff at Wexner Heritage Village and nurses Heidi, Miriam, Susie and nurses aides at Kensington Place for their loving and gentle care. They also extend very deep thanks to Dr. Bruce Massau for his decades long compassion and excellent care to their mother.
